For the most part I followed this guide, but I kept getting this error:
ffmpeg: error while loading shared libraries: libavfilter.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Turns out that the answer was also in a comment on that blog post
ldconfig
Then test the install again with ffmpeg -v and it should work. Feel free to e-mail me if you need help figuring this out as I just wasted 3 hours of my life on it

I won’t pretend that I know how this stuff works, but I am actually working with someone on a project that we need ffmpeg for. Do you recommend any web hosts that will let us install and use it pretty heavily? Right now we are looking at SliceHost.
Dom – I was doing this install on Slicehost, and we use Slicehost pretty heavily at firebelly too. They’re pretty great given that your client doesn’t mind paying for the VPS, which will be around 30 per month. Slicehost is the best though
